Drive Cars Down A Hill Starter Vehicles
Jalopy first, Volga and Lada next, weekly 125 MPH trucks last.
Every Drive Cars Down A Hill account starts the same way: 25-player server, vehicle shop, Jalopy 2106 for $0. The starter ranking is not about which car looks like a Saturday thumbnail. It is about which chassis teaches controls, survives the first Dunes drop, and leaves enough cash for a real hill car later. This page is a wiki ranking. The tier list hub holds the letter grades. The best cars page is what you open after Depot farming works.
The game launched April 19, 2022. V1 cars were brick-built. V2 cars are 3D, crash in segments, open doors, and show engines. You will drive V2. Do not wait for a weekly Rabbit to “start playing.”
Must spawn: Jalopy 2106 ($0)
Jalopy is F-tier for speed and S-tier for being free. Spawn it before you touch Robux, gamepasses, or a $1 chaos car. Learn:
- Camera and steering on the spawn hill
- Why you should not tap Space unless you want to eject
- How ramps, landmines, and other drivers delete a cheap chassis
- Where the first sniper towers sit on Day 1
The getting started guide covers that first hour. Jalopy exists so you can fail cheap. A wrecked free car is tuition. A wrecked Spearhead is a $400k lesson.
First paid buys: Volga, then Lada
Gaz-24 Volga — $10,000. First sensible paid shop car in the V2Lada-era list. It is not fast compared with Cannes Pursuit. It is a real car instead of a crate.
Lada 2106 — $30,000. Second paid stop. The V2Lada update is literally named after this chassis family. Buying Lada before a 125 MPH slushee truck is how you keep a daily driver.
How to fund them without crying:
- Like the game and join the group for group rewards.
- Assume codes are empty until the how to redeem page says otherwise.
- Unlock Hydrochapter and run the cash farm at Depot (second-from-right path, reset around +100k).
- Use the cash planner so $10k and $30k are a known number of teleports, not a vibe.
Visceral-Systems Crudcrate — $100 sits between Jalopy and Volga on the shop board. It is a meme step, not a plan. Skip it if $100 delays Volga.
Do not buy these first
Rabbit — $1, 38 MPH. Starter chaos. Buy it when you can laugh at 38 MPH, not when you need to reach Ghosttown.
Spearhead SUV — $400k, 125 MPH, boat. A mid-game toy. If you cannot yet afford Lada, you cannot afford a boat.
IPC, Tanker, Albany Villager, Slushee, Meitaro — 125 MPH gimmicks. B-tier fun. They steal Volga/Lada money.
Lance (140 MPH, 50 pizzas) and Cannes Pursuit (170 MPH) are A-tier later, not starter cars. Box Truck (140 MPH) is a physics playground.
Rocket (one life, historically about 1M cash or 50 Robux) is the opposite of a starter. Raccoon (~$100M) is an endgame poster. Cougar / Contact wait until survival cash exists. See the speed ranking when you are ready to care about 250+.
Mid shop after Lada, before millionaires
Once Lada feels small, the shop ladder is:
- Suzuk Carrier $50,000
- Roadster 1915 $90,000
- Caddy $110,000
- Harle $130,000
- Tord-AA 1928 $200,000
- Willys $250,000
- Scout Car $350,000
- Coupe $500,000
Willys and Scout are the A-tier mid picks on this wiki. The rest are flavor and body styles. Do not autopilot into Coupe at $500,000 if Gaz-66 at $700,000 is the actual survival upgrade. Gaz-66 ($700,000), Sand Bruiser FJ45 ($1,000,000), and Kuban G1A1-02 ($1,300,000) are the hill-finishers. Daytona Stock Car ($2,500,000) is a late shop flex. Panther XS exists after that rename pass; ignore its moving tag until your starter ladder is done.
Full names live on the vehicle roster. Maps that punish a bad first buy live on maps and chapters.
A starter hour that works
Join a server. Open the shop. Take Jalopy. Drive Start until the river jump makes sense. Ignore sniper towers until you understand the Dunes walkthrough. When you unlock more of the four chapters, prefer Hydrochapter Depot over grinding spawn laps. Bunk Laps gas-station loops are a backup if your car is too weak for Depot.
If you are curious about automation, read the scripts hub and how to execute first. An auto-farm does not replace learning not to eject. Ban risk is not a starter tactic.
Saturday will try to sell you a truck. Your starter ranking does not change because a tanker is explosive. Jalopy, Volga, Lada, farm, then talk to the best cars page. That order is how a free wreck becomes a million-dollar 4x4 instead of a $1 Rabbit graveyard at spawn.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for downhill runs, cash, and cars.
Do I have to use Jalopy?
Yes as your first spawn. It is free. Everything else is optional until getting started clicks.
Volga or Lada first?
Gaz-24 Volga at $10,000, then Lada 2106 at $30,000. That is the starter paid ladder on this wiki.
Can I skip to a weekly truck?
You can. You should not. Most 125 MPH drops are toys. Fund them after the cash farm.
What if I only have $1 extra?
Rabbit is a $1 joke car at 38 MPH. Buy it for chaos, then go back to Jalopy for real runs.
When do I leave the starter list?
After Lada is owned and Depot farming works. Then use best cars and the tier list hub.
